Winston-Salem, NC -- HIV and AIDS advocates met Monday to discuss what they call a crisis.

And they say it's cutting off patients from life saving drugs.

Monday in Winston-Salem, patients and lobbyists, talked about budget cuts to a state program that helps 200 people with HIV and AIDS pay for their medication.

The cuts shut down the AIDS Drug Assistance Program(ADAP) for newly diagnosed North Carolinians.

Advocates say, that means anyone without insurance who is diagnosed with HIV from here on out will not get help paying for their prescriptions.

For now, they focused  lobbying state lawmakers to reverse the budget cuts to the department of health's HIV and STD prevention branch.
