Thirteen organizations are excited to release the first gender analysis, recommendations and monitoring report of the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy: Monitoring the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy from a Gender Perspective: Analysis and Recommendations for Implementation.

The report card and analysis will be released at Tuesday's U.S. Conference on AIDS session entitled Monitoring the U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy: A Human Rights Approach (see session details below). Read the complete report card and analysis at: www.womenhiv.org/gender-audit.

Inspired by community-generated policy recommendations developed by the same groups in 2009, this gender monitoring report card analyzes the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and recommends specific action steps for the Strategy's implementation to secure the needs of women and families affected by HIV. Read the entire Gender Audit Analysis and Recommendations for NHAS Implementation here.

The Strategy makes incredible strides in identifying the multiple structural and social factors that lead to communities' disparate vulnerabilities to HIV. Yet, the Strategy does not identify women as a priority population or recommend women-specific campaigns and programs despite the disparate impact of the epidemic on women of color and the many people who depend on them. Read the Executive Summary of our Gender Audit and recommendations for NHAS Implementation here.

Participating organizations look forward to working with the Office of National AIDS Policy, other federal partners, community-based organizations, and private partners to develop necessary women-centered reforms, programming and campaigns in line with the goals of the new U.S. National HIV/AIDS Strategy.
