ABILENE, Texas -- State Representative Susan King and Mayor Norm Archibald officially declared Saturday HIV awareness day for Abilene.
The Big Country AIDS resource sponsored an event at Nelson Park Satuday, all in a hopes to educate others.
The organization says they want people to remember HIV and AIDS is still a big problem, even in the Big Country.
In 2008, AIDS effected about 200 people in our area.
Organizers say getting tested is the most important thing.
Jeff Hamilton, a risk reduction specialist, said, "best advice is to know your status. Get tested 3 to 6 times depending on your risk."
