WHAT WE DO

The HealthHCV Initiative advances  hepatitis C (HCV) advocacy and education by:

  • Developing and implementing sound public health policy responsive to the shifting landscape of viral hepatitis and health care in the United States.
  • Designing and implementing medical and consumer education and training programs to improve the ability of organizations, professionals, and individuals to address the needs of people living with viral hepatitis.
  • Conducting health service research that identifies trends across viral hepatitis and the broader health care landscapes.

ADVOCACY

HealthHCV Advocacy Platform

Increase the Number of Individuals Aware of HCV Infection

  • Advocate for the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services to expand HCV screening across lifespans via the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act prevention efforts

Improve Care Options for Individuals Living with Chronic Hepatitis C

  • Expand HCV integration in primary care settings
  • Ensure that providers and consumers have unencumbered access to new, effective, affordable, and safe HCV treatment and the inclusion of future HCV treatments in Essential Health Benefits standard
  • Expand health care workforce capacity for HCV screening

Build Surveillance and Research Capacity

  • Advance the case for national viral hepatitis surveillance system and research for improved treatment and HCV vaccine development

EDUCATION & TRAINING

HealthHCV designs and implements medical and consumer education and training programs to improve the ability of organizations, professionals, and individuals to address the needs of people living with viral hepatitis.

Workforce Education & Training Program

  • Provides expert HCV mentoring to clinicians in primary care practices, health centers, health clinics, and residency program
  • Matches MD, NP, PA to clinical experts for coaching and training on HCV care
  • Offers expansive educational resources to mentors and mentees

HIV Primary Care Training & Certificate Program

  • Provides primary care physicians with self-paced, online curriculum for developing new skills and competencies to optimize the quality of care they provide to patients infected with HIV and HCV
  • Includes and HIV/HCV co-infection module
  • Will be expanded to HCV mono-infection modules in 2015
